The VRA Health Services Limited was initially established in 1964 as a medical services unit in Akosombo. Later it was transformed into the Health & Safety Department and subsequently the Health Services Department.
In February 2014, it was incorporated as a limited liability company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the VRA, established under the Volta River Development Act, Act 46 of the Republic of Ghana, 1961.
The VRA Health Services Limited is now a Strategic Business Unit of VRA with the mandate of operating as a financially viable and self-sustaining health institution pending its full operationalization as a limited liability company in 2019.

We exist to provide and maintain a cost-effective health delivery system that will adequately cater for the health needs of staff of the Volta River Authority and their dependents, retirees and their spouses, inhabitants of areas affected by the operations of the Authority and other persons and/or Organizations that may require the services of VHSL.
The VRA Health Services Limited was established to safeguard the health and safety of VRA employees, their families and dependents, retirees and their dependants, the inhabitants of the Akosombo Township and the lakeside area. VRA Health Services also undertakes the provision of the mandated health social responsibility requirements of the Authority towards the communities alongside the river banks. The services have now extended to Aboadze, Accra and Akuse in line with VRA’s expansion and to the general public.
